Cu-Catalyzed Hydrodehalogenation of Brominated Aromatic Pollutants in Aqueous Solution

The catalytic effect of copper in Devarda’s Al-Cu-Zn alloy (Dev. alloy) and sole metallic copper, salts oxides the coaction NaBH4 within hydrodehalogenation (HDH) polybrominated phenols, such as herbicide Bromoxynil alkaline aqueous solution has been investigated. Namely, hydrodebromination (HDB) activity Dev. alloy/NaOH system compared to heterogeneous Cu-based catalysts using a reductant. Differences solid-state structures used after mentioned HDB process have studied powder XRD SEM techniques. It was found that some copper-based are reusable reasonably effective even at room temperature. Efficiency most promising reduction systems catalysts/NaBH4) successfully tested industrially important brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). catalyst generated in-situ CuSO4/NaBH4 produced were recognized active agents for complete debromination both BRX TBBPA.
